From the looks of Warhammer 40,000: Inquisitor – Martyr this game looks amazing. I looks like just the game someone that enjoys games like Diablo/POE would love to take a hold of. That an the Warhammer 40k universe is well insane and awesome.
After playing 14 hours of the game being hooked for a moment, then being left with a bad taste in my mouth. In this article I will cover if Warhammer 40,000: Inquisitor – Martyr is worth it or not.
Warhammer 40,000: Inquisitor – Martyr REVIEW
I don’t want to spoil my full thoughts on the game right at the first of this review. But, I guess I just cannot help myself.
I wanted to really love this game, truly. I’ve always wanted to go face first into the Warhammer 40K series books and games. At first I started looking into books because the stories this series has is amazing. They have cool characters and classes.
A Warhammer Inquisitor is actually quite awesome themselves. Even the ship the Martyr was cool for a while.
I’m not quite sure what happened during my gameplay of this game I picked up on steam summer sale, I had this game wish listed for so very long. All I can say is that the game starts of fun, has a decent story, then it just becomes bland.
Warhammer 40,000: Inquisitor – Martyr Graphics
The graphics in this isometric action rpg looter, are pretty good. Considering this game came out quite some time ago. It’s still kind of hard to see whats happening at times, its on the graphics are bad, but everything seems kind of washed out and blended together.
Maybe I’m getting older and just can’t see as well as I once did but everything just started blending together at a point.
Being on the Martyr ship I really couldn’t tell you which parts where different than others, they literally all look the same.
Like I’m saying the graphics aren’t “bad” but everything just kind of looks the same.
Warhammer 40,000: Inquisitor – Martyr Gameplay
The gameplay is about what you would expect. Click shoot things they blow up collect random gear.
The gameplay isn’t bad from what I can tell. But, from playing on PC and having to constantly control the camera to flip it around so it made more sense when I was going through the maps was exhausting.
I do believe this game was built for possibly a controller in mind, something you keep your right thumb on and you can constantly spin whichever way you want.
However using a middle mouse button to constantly flip it around so you could get a better sense of what was going on was just taxing and took a lot of the fun out of it for me. Maybe there is a better way to experience the game on PC. I do know that this game is available on Playstation+ as a free download, but in my experience I’ve always enjoy diablo like games with a mouse and keyboard way more.
Maybe this is exception.
I feel like it almost plays more like a RTS than Diablo 2/3 or even 4.
What is kind of neat is you don’t open up certain skill trees until you do them in game enough. I could see some people being off put by this as you don’t have to do this in a diablo game.
Warhammer 40,000: Inquisitor – Martyr Story
The story of Warhammer 40,000 Inquisitor -Martyr is probably its strongest positive. At first it was anyways.
Whenever it starts getting away from the main story of the Martyr and finding out the secrets of Uther Tiberius the game takes a real dip in quality of things I wanted to care about.
I wanted to keep pushing through it but just randomly killing other heretics and evil priests was getting repetitive and working for another “high ranking Inquisitor” telling me what to do, whenever an Inquisitor isn’t suppose to take orders from anyone.
Anyways, maybe I’ll revisit this game again some day and try to finish it but eventually I was really struggling to keep pushing through it. Warhammer 40K Inquisitor just doesn’t have the hook that I wanted it to have, it is missing something. I’m also not even that “BIG” of a story loot finder action rpg player. This one had one I was interested in then it quickly moves away to other stuff you don’t care about.
Conclusion: Is Warhammer 40,000: Inquisitor – Martyr worth it?
Looking at other reviews of this game and comparing them to my own thoughts. It appears that a lot of people enjoy this more on a console than on a PC.
Honestly, whenever I play this game all I can think is.. this must work better with a controller. Sure I guess I could plug in a controller I have stored away… but from experience playing a isometric Action RPG Diablo style game just seems weird to me especially on PC.
I wish I could recommend this game more, maybe give it a try on sale on steam like I did, I however would never pay full price for this game. If you have a Playstation 5 and a PS+ sub the game looks like it is free on there.
Not going to waste my time playing the game over with a controller to see if it flows any better. The story starts off strong I will say but then it just sends you on missions you don’t care about. If you can grind past the pointless stuff I’m sure you will find a worthy story and some cool explosions along the way.
So is it worth it? It’s worth it on a nice sale and never full price.
